As a drummer I've toured America, done session work in Newcastle, Manchester and London and even played in a function band or two.
I have been gigging for eleven years, got my grade 8 at the age of 17 and know the pressures and joys of the instrument like the back of my hand.
It's important to me that my students develop into the kind of drummers THEY want to be, so I like to tailor my lessons around their own musical preferences.
First we take a drummer or a band they're enthusiastic about, then I create a series of lessons examining how that drummer uses important rudiments, grooves and time signatures to create their style. Soon enough, not only will you be playing like your favourite musician, you'll have the tools to create a style of your very own!
Looking to tackle those grades? Worry not, as a Trinity Guildhall grade 8 kit drummer, I'm familiar with all the major examining bodies and their syllabi.
The Art of the Drummer (John Savage) - This book teaches simple, essential grooves that underpin all styles of drumming, an excellent beginner's primer to drumming.
Modern Reading Text in 4/4 (Louis Bellson) - Should you wish to learn sight-reading, Louis Bellson's Modern Reading Text in 4/4 contains simple, yet effective exercises for percussive notation that can be played in any style, straight or swung.
I am also willing to work from the syllabus of any examining body, if you're interested in going for that grade 8.
I specialise in rock and jazz but my command of the universal rudiment of kit drumming mean I can turn my hand to virtually any style and genre. And so will you.
As a songwriter and percussive arranger, I'm happy to dedicate part of our lessons to working on arrangements for your band. Just bring in a demo or recording, talk me through what you'd like to work on and we'll utilise what we've learned together to transform your song into a professional-standard piece of pop music!
I currently live in Deptford.
